Can the XV6800 Handle Windows Mobile 6.5?

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

People are eager to know whether their Verizon Wireless XV6800 (Sprint Mogul, HTC Titan) can run Windows Mobile 6.5

What do you think? Several people at XDA Developers have been loading custom ROMs that have Windows Mobile 6.5

Are you willing to try?

Well, technically it can handle it, but with limitations. I have been running quite a few of the beta builds and am currently on the RC build (21501). Of course it goes without saying that if you thought the Titan was starved for RAM before, it is even more so now. This includes having the Camera disabled to free up an extra 6MB of RAM. Right after boot I have about 25MB free, but give it a couple of hours and you will be down to 20MB (subtract 6MB from both numbers if your camera is enabled.)

Overall, performance is fine other than said RAM issues and it's amazing how little you have to use the stylus now. I say go for it if you don't mind soft resetting once a day, other wise get yourself a real phone, like a Touch or Touch Pro both of which have 128MB to 256MB of RAM (depends on your carrier)as opposed to the measly 64MB this poor little Titan (more like Petite if you ask me) has.
